Philadelphia, PA – March 17th, 2025 – Boeing and Learn Fresh are joining forces to expand STEM education access for students across the greater Philadelphia region through the MLB Players STEM League. This program engages students in hands-on, sports-based learning, helping them develop critical problem-solving and analytical skills.
The partnership comes at a critical time for the region’s education system. While 4th-grade math scores have risen by seven points since 2022—outpacing most districts—math proficiency for 3rd to 8th graders remains below state averages. Additionally, the district faces a $1.25 billion funding gap, underscoring the need for innovative education solutions.
“Boeing is proud to partner with Learn Fresh to bring interactive STEM learning opportunities to students in the Philadelphia region,” said Michele Hengey, Boeing Global Engagement Senior Community Investor. “By fostering curiosity and critical thinking at an early age, we’re preparing the next generation for success in aerospace, engineering, and technology.”
Developed by Learn Fresh in collaboration with the Major League Baseball Players Trust, the MLB Players STEM League merges students’ passion for baseball with STEM learning. Through gameplay, students engage with statistics, strategy, and data-driven decision-making. With Boeing’s support, the program will be implemented in schools and afterschool programs across the Philadelphia region, culminating in a regional tournament where students can showcase their skills.
In addition to supporting the local program, Boeing is sponsoring Phoenix Booker, a talented sixth grader from St. Malachy School in Philadelphia, to compete in the 2025 MLB Players STEM League Global Championship, to be held in Scottsdale, AZ from March 21-23, 2025. This annual event, which will take place during MLB’s spring training, brings together students from across the United States, as well as international participants from countries such as Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and Brazil. Phoenix’s opportunity to represent Philadelphia on the global stage reflects his commitment in the classroom.
“At Learn Fresh, we believe every student deserves access to high-quality STEM learning experiences that inspire and empower them,” said Nick Monzi, CEO of Learn Fresh. “Through this partnership with Boeing, we’re making STEM education more relevant, accessible, and fun for students in the region.”
